Maria Muller was born in Karlsruhe, Germany and spent her early years in Canada and Wisconsin. She began photographing and working in the darkroom in the 1970s, and started hand coloring her work in 1980. She is self-taught.
Her work is included in various public collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, the New York Public Library, the U.S. Embassy in Brussels and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Her work is also in numerous corporate and private collections – in Australia, China, Spain and the United States. The Houghton Library at Harvard University owns two of her one-of-a-kind photographic artist’s books.
In 1991 Muller was awarded a fellowship by the Massachusetts Artist’s Foundation. Her work has been published in Color magazine, five volumes published by Graphis Press, Communication Arts andPhotodistrict News.
Maria Muller has been represented by Pucker Gallery since 1999. She currently works and lives in Medford, Massachusetts.
