Since the 1970s, the Gallery has been privileged to exhibit the varied and beautiful soapstone and quartz carvings of the Inuit. Themes of indigenous flora and fauna, hunting, domesticity and mythology are skillfully and diversely treated in the various regions of the Canada's Nunavut province. Inuit carving responds both to an aesthetic imperative and a need to understand the often harsh and threatening environment of their home. Parts of the Gallery collection are currently on display in a traveling museum exhibition in Florida at the Ocala Museum.
