The Gallery is proud to exhibit a sizable collection of objects from Southern Africa. From rich dark Zulu beerpots and wooden stools from South Africa to handsome Lozi clay vessels and wooden relish bowls from Zambia, our assembly of works represent a tradition that is fast diminishing as Western influences make their way into traditional African regions. The traditional clay forms are made from a coiling method. The pieces are burnished and pit-fired. Both functional and beautiful, these objects are admired by private collectors and public institutions alike.
Works are now included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
