Sacred Presence: Landscapes of Israel by Jim Schantz
1 March - 31 March 2008

Pastel artist Jim Schantz has found his spiritual and artistic center in the Berkshire region. He studied art in California, Maine, New York and London when a job opportunity brought him to Stockbridge, Massachusetts. His evocative and richly worked landscapes masterfully capture times of day and season and qualities of light that provide peace for both artist and viewer. They are represented in museums and public collections throughout the United States. His book, Spirit of Nature, illustrates Jim's strong bond to the Berkshire region and his deft skill in describing it. A more recent project, Places of the Spirit is a collaborative effort with flutist Paula Robison.

Paula and Jim traveled together for a second time in 2006, this time to Israel. Jim's forthcoming exhibition, Sacred Presence: Landscapes of Israel by Jim Schantz, will commemorate this trip alongside the publication of Places of the Spirit: The Holy Land.

We are pleased to announce the Boston Bruins' commission of a work by Jim, created for Cam Neely, to honor the recent retirement of the great Boston hockey player's number.
